Samdech Techo Hun Sen Announces Arrest of Three Individuals for Distorting Cambodia-Laos-Viet Nam Development Triangle Area

Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 24 – Cambodian Senate President, Samdech Techo Hun Sen announced that three people have been arrested for inciting the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Area (CLV-DTA).

Samdech Techo Hun Sen spoke on 23 July 2024 in a special message on the CLV-DTA.

"We have already arrested three people. The day before yesterday, we arrested one from Siem Reap. On 23 July 2024, two more from Siem Reap were arrested,” Samdech Techo underscored.

Samdech Techo revealed that among the three arrested was also Srun Sron, whom he referred to as the "Paris Conference Teacher."

Samdech Techo Hun Sen added, "The Paris Conference teacher was spreading false information on TikTok. We need to coordinate with the court to find documents and invite students to research at the Ministry of Commerce to understand the agreements here.”

Samdech Techo underlined that there is no agreement on territorial integration other than economic, social, security, and defence issues, and that each country manages its territory with mutual contributions. He stated that both Cambodia and Viet Nam benefit from this cooperation.

The CLV-DTA has five agreements at the Government level, which include:

1. Agreement on Trade Promotion and Facilitation in the CLV-DTA signed on 23 November 2016.

2. Agreement on Trade in Goods and Services in the Cambodia-Viet Nam Border Area.

3. Agreement on Land Transport between Cambodia and Viet Nam.

4. Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Land Transport between Cambodia and Laos, signed on 28 March 2008.

5. Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Land Transport between Cambodia, Laos, and Viet Nam, signed on 13 January 2013.

In addition, Samdech Techo further mentioned that there are several other plans, including:

1. The plan related to the socio-economic development adjustment for the CLV-DTA 2010-2020.

2. The plan to connect the economies of CLV from now until 2030.

3. The tourism development plan for the DTA.

4. The rubber industry development plan for the CLV-DTA.
