The Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training (MLVT) Friday announced that more than 50,000 workers are needed for three principal sectors including industry, services and agriculture with five provinces experiencing the highest demand.
Three principal sectors including industry, services and agriculture require more than 50,000 workers, said the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training (MLVT) on Friday.
Cambodia needs a total of 51,705 workers across three major sectors of industry, services and agriculture which present opportunities for citizens and youth to increase their income and support their families, the ministry added.
Elaborating further the ministry said, “Three major sectors are in need of workers, including 39,017 in the industrial sector, 2,801 in the service and 9,887 in the agricultural sector to boost the production chain.”
The five provinces with the highest demand for labour include Kampong Speu province needs over 11,000 jobs, Kampong Chhnang province needs more than 10,000 jobs, Phnom Penh needs more than 9,000 jobs, Svay Rieng province needs more than 4,000 jobs, Ratanakkiri province needs more than 4,000 jobs and other provinces need more than 10,000 jobs.
“The five skills that are most in-demand include more than 30,000 sewing machine operators, more than 9, 000 plantation workers, more than 1,000 production workers, more than 1,000 metal production process inspectors, shoemakers and workers involved in more than 800 footwear products and more than 6,000 other jobs in total.”
Earlier, Secretary of State and Spokesperson of MLVT Katta Orn told Khmer Times that the National Employment Agency (NEA) of the Ministry of Labour and Vocation Training (MLVT) provided 3,380 careers for 17,535 Cambodians registered in the job searching platform for the first semester of this year.
He added that nearly 4,000 people who got jobs from NEA are working in several sectors such as industry, hospitality, agriculture and agro-industry.
It may be recalled, Prime Minister Hun Manet in November last year, announced the implementation of vocational training programs for 1.5 million young people from poor and vulnerable families to provide professional and technical skills to young Cambodians to have a decent job to improve their family life.
The Ministry of Labour has selected 38 skills in 10 fields for the first phase of the programme. The 10 sectors include construction, electricity, electronics, general mechanics, tourism, services, agro-industry, business and information technology.
