The Minister of Labour and Vocational Training Heng Sour, yesterday met with a delegation from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) led by Justine Diokno-Sicat at the Ministry.
In a cordial meeting, the two sides shared visions, opportunities, and challenges in skills development. Cambodia aims to diversify its market economy from labour-intensive and low-cost to a market-based economy based on industry and technology.
In addition, both sides also discussed and shared visions of the government’s national vocational training programme for 1.5 million young people from poor and vulnerable families, which aims to provide skills quickly for the labour market.
Sour highlighted the government’s will to provide vocational training for the target group, as well as the general population, to acquire specific skills to gain employment quickly and improve their family’s livelihood and prosperity.
In addition to presenting the ministry’s policy and readiness for training, Sour highlighted the flexibility of the schedule for vocational training to create a more conducive environment for participants.
The ADB side shared its experience and expressed its appreciation for the government’s will and policy on human resource development in Cambodia. The ADB is committed to working with the government to achieve the goal of diversifying the labour-intensive market economy into a market economy based on skills and technology.
